9:16 am
given a clean bill of health. can you recommend nutritious foods that will help him gain weight? we eat meals together and i love to cook, but unlike my husband, i have to keep my calories low to keep my weight in check. so is there a way to add calories to his meals but keep my meals lower in calories. >> this is actually a pretty common issue, and it sounds like, elliott, you're a healthy guy, and you just have a super speedy metabolism and, by the way, a lot of people watching are probably very envious but i realize it's just as difficult for some people to gain weight as it is for other people to lose weight. i mean, the good news is that you can take one meal and manipulate it so we increase the calories for elliott and nice and low for linda. the first thing i'm going to tell you when it comes to drinking liquids, linda, you're going to stick with water. i always say water, water, calorie free. elliott, i don't want you to waste precious belly space on something that's not offering calories. so for you, 100% fruit juice and
9:17 am
take advantage of some of the supplemental beverages that are on the market, ensure plus, boost plus, even carnation instant breakfast. they're all terrific. when it comes to breakfast, for elliott, a generous portion of cereal and pile on nuts and seeds and dried fruit. for linda, one portion, and if you want a topping, stick with fresh fruit. whole eggs for your omelets, elliott. reduced fat cheese and grill them up in canola oil straight from the bottle. linda, use a mister and use one whole egg whipped with two to three egg whites. for lunch, elliott, pile on your sandwich, avocado, cheese, and you could enjoy it with some baked chips. linda, you keep yours nice and clean and simple and instead of the baked chips, some crunchy vegetables like baby carrots or sugar snap 's. for salads, loads of full fat vinaigrette because it's healthy fat for elliott. linda, use a low-cal
9:18 am
vinaigrette. for elliott's salads you can pile on things like raisins, crou it ons, reduced fat cheese again, the nuts, the seeds. when it comes to side starch with dinner, two, three serving for elliott and, linda, i'm so sorry, but you want to stick with just one serving like most of the people watching probably. and then for snacks things like guacamole and baked chips and trail mix are awesome choices for elliott because they're healthy but they're calorie dense. and then for linda, your nonstarchy vegetables, fresh fruit. and you can have some of the things i mentioned for elliott as well. you want to keep a lid on the portions. you see you can manipulate the same type of foods but up the calories for your husband and keep them relatively low for you and you both reach your goals. >> but you're talking, again, all about like very healthy choices that add just a little bit more bulk. >> that's exact ly right.

exercise, you create a calorie deficit, you will burn fat all over your body and your problem area, if it's your belly, may not be the first or the second place that you lose weight but eventually it is coming off. so keep watching what you're eating. get out there and move as much as you can. do a lot of physical activity. and also work the muscles underneath. you know, crunches or other exercises like planks because when that fat comes off your belly, those abs are going to shine through. >> you want the tone. >> and it will come off. don't give up. don't waste your money on those ads. >> thanks, connie. finally a viewer e-mail from phyllis of bogota, new jersey. are those rotisserie chickens you buy at grocery and club stores healthy? there seems to be an awful lot of fat and grease on the chicken. >> i've wondered that, too. there's a lot more going on in that container. >> they're incredibly healthy. they're whole roasted chickens and as long as you remove the
